Disease Claims Handler

About the role

Davies Group is seeking an experienced Disease Claims Handler to join its growing Casualty team in Birmingham. The role involves managing short‑ and long‑tail disease claims such as asbestos, asthma, cancer and other occupational illnesses, providing professional advice and ensuring timely resolution.

Key responsibilities

• Liaise with insurers, policyholders and brokers throughout the claims process.
• Investigate allocated claims, gathering evidence and documentation, and refer to field adjusters when site visits are required.
• Determine appropriate actions, prepare detailed reports and advise on policy indemnity and response.
• Negotiate settlements within authorised limits and correspond professionally with all parties.
• Handle cases according to client procedures, maintain accurate reserves and review them regularly.
• Stay updated on technical changes and participate in company‑facilitated training programmes.

Required profile

• Experience with policy wording, terms and conditions.
• Knowledge of the insurance market and legal principles relevant to disease claims.
• Understanding of claim valuation, reserving philosophies and civil procedure rules.
• Strong communication and customer‑service skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively, plan and organise workload, and demonstrate adaptability.
• Proactive responsibility for personal workload.
