Electrical Mods Technician – Locomotive Fitter (Mods)

About the role
The Electrical Mods Technician will carry out modification updates as part of the ETCS programme across the client’s freight locomotive fleet. This safety‑critical position is based in Leeds and reports to the Engineering Depot Supervisor.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain, service, fault‑find and repair locomotives in line with approved maintenance plans and Railway Group Standards.
- Remove components, modify looms and install new electrical parts, then test to ensure compliance with statutory codes.
- Complete all required paperwork for examinations and repairs accurately and on time.
- Record and report material issues, and ensure tools and instrumentation are cared for.
- Participate in safety, quality and technical briefings and assist team leaders during maintenance activities.
Required profile
- Minimum 3 years experience with motor vehicles, HGVs, agricultural, military or traction & rolling stock, covering both electrical and mechanical work.
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in an engineering or technical discipline.
- Ability to work to tight 12‑13 week locomotive turnaround schedules and meet KPI targets.
- Willingness to undergo a safety‑critical rail medical, drug & alcohol test and basic security clearance.
