EL/PL Lawyer – Claims Handler (Permanent)

About the role
The Claims Handler will manage a caseload of EL/PL delegated authority fixed‑fee cases for multiple insurance clients, working closely with a Technical Support Lawyer who sets strategy and makes liability decisions. The role demands a forensic, analytical approach and familiarity with the documentation and evidence required for these types of claims.
Key responsibilities
- Consider and respond to applications for pre‑action disclosure and manage matters in line with client SLAs.
- Instruct counsel/advocates, review evidence (including medical and personnel records), and conduct investigations with insured parties.
- Draft and negotiate Tomlin Orders, Consent Orders, cost schedules and other court documents.
- Handle routine correspondence, telephone chasing, and filing of allocation questionnaires and witness summons.
- Review claim quantum, conduct legal research, and set case strategy.
- Attend conferences and trials with counsel, taking detailed notes.
- Ensure compliance with SRA standards and regulations.
Required profile
- Confident communicator with strong telephone skills, able to interact with all levels.
- Excellent organisational ability, capable of prioritising tasks and delegating when needed.
- Calm under pressure, detail‑oriented and able to manage repetitive tasks accurately.
- Good literacy, IT proficiency and teamwork mindset.
- Positive, enthusiastic attitude with a commitment to meeting performance targets.
- High analytical capability and ability to work within the Keoghs Shared Behaviour framework.
