Employer Liability & Public Liability Claims Handler

About the role

The Claims Handler will manage a caseload of employer liability and public liability delegated authority cases for multiple insurance clients. Working closely with a Technical Support Lawyer, you will set strategies, make liability decisions and develop technical expertise while handling pre‑action disclosure files, infant approval hearings and other EL/PL matters.

Key responsibilities

• Assess primary and secondary liability concepts in employer and public liability claims.
• Prepare initial reports, set claim strategies and review evidence such as witness statements, medical records and property inspections.
• Manage disclosure processes, conduct investigations and attend case management conferences.
• Instruct counsel, investigators and medical experts; draft expert questions and cost schedules.
• Prepare pre‑trial reports, trial bundles and attend conferences and trials with counsel.
• Maintain compliance with SRA standards and client service level agreements.
• Handle routine correspondence, draft documents and produce counter‑schedules.
• Support senior file handlers on tasks within their caseloads.

Required profile

• Self‑confident with strong telephone and communication skills at all levels.
• Ability to organise, prioritise and re‑prioritise tasks under pressure.
• Attention to detail when dealing with repetitive or complex documentation.
• Good literacy, IT proficiency and the ability to work within a team to meet client service targets.
• Positive, enthusiastic attitude with high analytical capability.
