Engineering Manager - AI Platform

About the role

Thought Machine is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the AI Platform team in London. You will guide a group of engineers in designing, building and operating AI‑enabled tooling that helps the company solve business problems safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Lead complex technical projects from conception through delivery, ensuring alignment with the product roadmap.
• Participate actively in technical discussions, design reviews and data‑driven decision making.
• Define, design and implement new AI platforms, pipelines and tools, evaluating the right technology for each use case.
• Collaborate with senior leadership, internal users and cross‑functional teams to shape the platform vision and strategy.
• Measure platform impact using user data and iterate based on feedback.
• Contribute to engineering‑wide initiatives such as recruitment, process improvement and team culture.
• Mentor and develop engineers, supporting their career growth.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing software engineering teams, preferably in a product‑focused environment.
• Strong product ownership mindset with the ability to switch between management and hands‑on technical work.
• Excellent communication skills and a data‑driven approach to problem solving.
• Ability to understand internal team needs, identify solutions and measure success.

Required skills

• Experience with cloud‑native architectures and modern software development practices.
• Familiarity with AI/ML tooling, pipelines and platform engineering.
• Competence in technical design, code reviews and architectural decision‑making.
