Engineering Manager - Billing & Payments

About the role

In the Billing & Payments Tribe we design the experiences that define how customers pay and how partners get paid. As the team scales, we are building a new engineering group from the ground up and need an Engineering Manager to lead it.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of 5–6 engineers across multiple locations (Germany, Romania, etc.).
• Coach and mentor engineers, supporting career growth and technical excellence.
• Foster strong feedback loops to enable continuous learning and improvement.
• Create a safe, empowering environment where decisions are delegated and ownership is clear.
• Partner with Product Management to define goals, priorities, and OKRs.
• Own delivery commitments and continuously improve team effectiveness and predictability.
• Collaborate with other tribes, platform teams, and enabling functions (DevOps, UX, InfoSec, etc.).
• Support hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, and individual development planning.
• Represent the team to stakeholders and contribute to engineering‑wide strategy.

Required profile

• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• 2+ years in an Engineering Manager or similar leadership role (technical leads transitioning to management are welcome).
• Proven experience building and scaling distributed teams.
• Strong coaching mindset with a passion for developing people.
• Confidence operating in a financial or payments domain (billing, invoicing, payment flows, compliance).
• Solid technical foundation to discuss architecture, system design, testing, CI/CD, and best practices.
• Data‑informed decision‑making with a bias toward observability and learning.
• Proactive interest in AI and emerging technologies, willing to experiment and drive innovation.
