Engineering Manager – Lead a High‑Performing Tech Team

About the role

Monzo is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a cross‑functional, autonomous squad of 7‑10 engineers. You will be responsible for delivering high‑impact product outcomes while fostering an inclusive, high‑performance engineering culture.

Key responsibilities

• Take accountability for delivery across your squad, working closely with the Technical Lead and Product Manager.
• Maintain a high bar for engineering excellence, setting clear expectations and driving technical outcomes.
• Coach, mentor and develop engineers through regular 1:1s and continuous feedback.
• Partner with senior engineers to drive technical initiatives that raise engineering standards.
• Communicate with stakeholders, creating focus space for engineers to do their best work.
• Contribute to company‑wide best managerial and technical practices.

Required profile

• Experienced manager with a strong technical and delivery background, previously worked as a software engineer.
• Comfortable operating in ambiguous problem areas with a high degree of autonomy.
• Proven delivery experience, able to guide squads to achieve outcomes.
• Outcome‑focused, optimising for highest impact and leverage.
• Ability to challenge engineering decisions while empowering teams to own those decisions.
• Skilled at coaching people to achieve their goals and naturally inspiring teams.
