Estate Services Operative

About the role

Manchester City Council is seeking two motivated Estate Services Operatives to join the Housing Operations team in Blackley. You will play a key part in supporting the regeneration of the Collyhurst estate by keeping communal outdoor areas safe, clean and presentable during a period of construction and demolition.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out grounds maintenance and upkeep of landscaped areas across the estate.
• Remove litter, debris and fly‑tipped waste to maintain a tidy environment.
• Conduct regular estate inspections and report any environmental or safety issues.
• Support health and safety requirements around construction and demolition zones.
• Maintain a visible presence on the estate and respond promptly to resident concerns.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure high service standards.

Required profile

• Previous experience in grounds maintenance, estate or environmental services is desirable.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Good awareness of health and safety practices.
• Reliable, punctual and committed to delivering excellent service.
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.

Required skills

• Physical fitness to lift and move heavy items safely.
• Capability to perform manual labour throughout the working day.
• Endurance to walk significant distances across estate areas.
• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather.

What we offer

• Pay rate of £15.93 per hour (PAYE).
• Full‑time temporary contract for approximately 2–3 months.
• Monday to Friday, 08:00‑15:30.
