External Affairs Officer

About the role

Our client, a large purpose‑led organisation delivering essential services across London, is seeking an External Affairs Officer to support media relations, stakeholder engagement and public affairs activities. Reporting to the Head of External Affairs, you will help protect and enhance the organisation’s reputation while working with political, media and industry audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Manage media enquiries, monitor coverage and deliver proactive and reactive media relations initiatives.
• Build and maintain relationships with MPs, councillors, industry bodies and external partners.
• Produce briefings, correspondence, statements and other high‑quality written communications.
• Monitor political, regulatory and sector developments, providing insights on opportunities and reputational risks.
• Support senior leaders with stakeholder engagement, events, visits, incident response and crisis communications.

Required profile

• Experience in public affairs, corporate affairs, media relations, government relations or external communications.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills with experience working with political, regulatory or external audiences.
• Excellent written communication ability to produce high‑quality briefings and communications material.
• Demonstrable interest in UK politics, current affairs and the wider public policy environment.
• Organised, proactive and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, complex environment.

• Salary between £42,800 and £47,200 per year, dependent on experience.
