Family Support Worker

About the role

We are seeking a caring and resilient Family Support Worker to join a school’s Inclusion team in South‑East Birmingham from September 2026. You will work directly with students, families and staff to remove barriers to learning and promote positive outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with behavioural, emotional or social needs.
• Build trusting relationships with disengaged or at‑risk students.
• Collaborate with parents and carers, including home visits where appropriate.
• Develop and implement targeted intervention plans to improve attendance, behaviour and engagement.
• Liaise with external agencies such as social care, Early Help, CAMHS and other support services.
• Support students during challenging situations, helping them develop emotional regulation and coping strategies.

Required profile

• Experience working with children, young people or families in a school, youth work, social care or similar setting.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Calm, patient and resilient when dealing with challenging behaviour.
• Good understanding of safeguarding, child protection and confidentiality.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
