Finance Manager

About the role

AFR Consulting is seeking a Finance Manager to lead a small finance team within its specialist equipment business. Reporting to the Directors, you will ensure accurate accounting and finance processes while supporting the company's growth and stability.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare trial balances, balance‑sheet reconciliations and quarterly management accounts.
• Monitor cash flow, process foreign‑currency transactions and manage forecasts.
• Handle VAT returns, year‑end accounts and coordinate the annual audit.
• Process monthly payroll, expenses, credit‑card transactions and statutory payments (NI, PAYE) to HMRC.
• Produce sales and profit‑margin analysis, monitor stock, fixed assets and depreciation.
• Maintain financial data for internal reporting and analysis schedules.
• Process supplier payments, cash‑book analysis and journal entries.
• Triage IT issues and liaise with outsourced suppliers, banks, insurance and pension advisers.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Management Accountant or Company Accountant in an SME environment.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work within a 40‑person site team.
• Flexible, hands‑on attitude with a willingness to take ownership of varied finance tasks.
• Office‑based role; comfortable with occasional ad‑hoc duties.

Required skills

• Experience with SAGE accounting systems, preferably SAGE 200.
• Good general IT systems knowledge.
