Finance Operations Manager

About the role

This is a senior leadership position within a large not‑for‑profit organisation, responsible for overseeing the finance transactions function and delivering high‑quality financial services across the business.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and develop the Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Payroll teams.
• Oversee accurate and timely operation of sales and purchase ledgers.
• Manage the end‑to‑end payroll function, ensuring HMRC, pension and statutory compliance.
• Lead payroll year‑end activities, including P60s, P11Ds and reconciliations.
• Review and improve financial transaction processes, systems and controls.
• Monitor aged debtors and creditors, resolve issues and improve cash collection.
• Manage cash flow and produce rolling cash‑flow forecasts.
• Support preparation of statutory accounts and consolidated reporting.
• Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, funders, suppliers and external partners.
• Investigate and resolve complex financial queries while ensuring regulatory compliance.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with experience leading finance transaction teams.
• Proven experience managing Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Payroll functions.
• Strong knowledge of payroll legislation and HMRC compliance.
• Track record of driving process improvement and leading change initiatives.
• Experience of cash‑flow management, reconciliations and financial controls.
• Excellent leadership and coaching abilities.
• Strong analytical ability with large data sets.
• Effective communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Proactive, organised and able to meet tight deadlines.
