About the role
Working as part of a small team within GBB, this role involves investigating and reconstructing serious and fatal road traffic collisions and producing Court‑compliant reports. We receive instructions from solicitors, insurance companies, manufacturers and the general public. The role is customer‑facing with frequent meetings and discussions with clients and barristers.
Key responsibilities
- Produce impartial, accurate and comprehensive reports to assist the Court in understanding collision circumstances.
- Assist pre‑litigation investigations to support early case settlement or liability issues.
- Conduct vehicle examinations, including damage assessment, defect identification, mechanical condition and roadworthiness.
- Download and analyse vehicle data such as ECU and Event Data Recorder information.
- Perform site visits, incident reconstructions and traditional collision investigation techniques to determine impact speeds.
- Utilise 3D surveys, computer modelling, photogrammetry, animations and simulations for reconstruction.
- Analyse CCTV and video footage to support investigations.
- Consider human factors, night‑time collisions and conspicuity issues.
- Review documentary evidence, witness statements, police reports and relevant literature.
- Plan and conduct research and testing; attend Court as an expert witness in criminal and civil hearings.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering or physics‑related discipline and practical knowledge of collision investigation with extensive hands‑on experience.
- Full clean driving licence (category B) and willingness to obtain further professional qualifications (e.g., Chartered Engineer status, specific collision investigation certifications).
- Ability to work unsupervised, self‑motivated, manage own workload and consistently meet deadlines.
- Strong problem‑solving aptitude and commitment to continuous professional development (CPD).
- Excellent written communication to produce high‑quality evidence‑based reports for clients and the Court.
