Grounds Maintenance Operative – Halifax

About the role

We are looking for two dedicated Grounds Maintenance Operatives to join our team in Halifax. The role involves maintaining outdoor areas for a large housing association, ensuring they are safe, tidy and attractive for residents and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Mow lawns using pedestrian and ride‑on mowers, and perform edging work.
• Trim and prune hedges, shrubs, bushes and low trees with hedge trimmers, loppers, pole‑saws or chainsaws.
• Apply herbicides and pesticides in accordance with safety regulations.
• Collect and clear grass cuttings, leaf litter, twigs and other debris from paths, steps, drives and garden beds.
• Seed, turf and plant grassed areas, shrub beds and wild‑flower borders.
• Pick litter and remove rubbish from landscaped zones.
• Inspect, clean and carry out minor repairs on playgrounds and play equipment to maintain safety.
• Identify hazards, damage or graffiti, make safe or report issues, and record work completed using manual or digital systems.
• Act as a point of contact for residents, responding to queries and providing high‑quality customer service.

Required profile

• Reliable and hardworking with a strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to follow health and safety procedures.
• Good communication skills for interacting with residents and colleagues.

Required skills

• Operation of mowing equipment (pedestrian and ride‑on mowers).
• Use of trimming tools such as hedge trimmers, loppers, pole‑saws and chainsaws.
• Safe handling and application of herbicides/pesticides.
