Head of Design - Decarbonisation

About the role

We are recruiting for a leading energy and infrastructure specialist delivering decarbonisation and renewable energy projects across the UK and Ireland. The Head of Design – Decarbonisation will lead a multidisciplinary building services design team to deliver net‑zero and low‑carbon solutions for commercial and public sector projects.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive the design and technical strategy for decarbonisation projects.
• Manage and develop a team of MEP engineers.
• Oversee design of heat pumps, district energy schemes, building electrification, renewable technologies and energy‑efficiency upgrades.
• Ensure designs comply with UK and Irish regulations and standards.
• Support bids, funding applications and client presentations.
• Collaborate with operational and commercial teams to deliver practical, buildable solutions.
• Act as senior technical representative for clients and industry stakeholders.

Required profile

• Degree qualified in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering.
• Strong background in Building Services / MEP design.
• Proven experience delivering decarbonisation, low‑carbon or net‑zero projects.
• Previous experience leading engineering teams.
• Good understanding of UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance and energy performance standards.
• Chartered status or working towards chartership is desirable.

Required skills

• Energy modelling software such as IES, TAS or eQuest.
