HR Manager – Operational HR Lead

About the role

We are seeking an experienced, hands‑on HR Manager to lead the operational HR function for a fast‑growing group business in Trafford Park, Manchester. This on‑site position works closely with managers and employees, taking ownership of complex employee‑relations matters and delivering practical, commercially‑focused HR solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage employee‑relations cases across the group, ensuring compliance with UK employment law.
• Advise, coach and support managers on performance management, HR policies and procedures.
• Handle disciplinary, grievance, absence, TUPE, restructuring and consultation processes.
• Motivate and develop a small HR team, monitoring workloads and service quality.
• Oversee the full employee lifecycle – recruitment, onboarding, probation, performance reviews, development and off‑boarding.
• Support accurate HR administration and assist with payroll‑related queries.
• Review, update and implement HR policies, processes and procedures.
• Promote employee wellbeing, engagement and recognition initiatives.
• Manage HR, ATS and scheduling systems and support new system implementations.
• Drive continuous improvement to keep the HR function visible, approachable and effective.

Required profile

• Proven experience as an HR Manager or senior operational HR professional.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex employee‑relations issues in a high‑volume environment.
• Experience leading a small HR team and delivering commercial HR advice.
• Strong knowledge of UK employment legislation and best practice HR processes.
