Java Team Lead

About the role

TXP Technology x People is expanding its Java capability and seeks an experienced Java Team Lead to shape, scale and guide its engineering community across the UK and offshore centres. This senior leadership position focuses on technical oversight, people development and maintaining high‑quality delivery standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Java engineering capability, ensuring consistent delivery quality.
• Provide technical leadership, championing modern engineering practices and standards.
• Act as the escalation point for delivery, technical and people matters within the Java teams.
• Mentor senior developers and support performance management of engineers.
• Drive recruitment, onboarding and growth of the Java team.
• Review solution designs, code quality and engineering approaches without hands‑on coding.
• Support pre‑sales and bid activities in collaboration with commercial stakeholders.
• Collaborate with delivery leaders and partners to set teams up for success.

Required profile

• Strong background in Java development (Java 1.6/1.8 or later).
• Proven experience leading or managing Java engineers in a delivery environment.
• Excellent understanding of REST APIs, Spring, Oracle PL/SQL and micro‑services architecture.
• Familiarity with modern build and deployment tooling such as Maven, Docker and Kubernetes.
• Good working knowledge of Agile/Scrum delivery approaches.
• Confident in technical discussions with senior engineers and architects.
• Demonstrated people leadership, mentoring and stakeholder management skills.
