KS1 Teaching Assistant – Birmingham

About the role

This position supports a primary school in Birmingham by assisting Key Stage 1 pupils. You will work alongside class teachers and the SENCO to deliver targeted interventions and help children develop confidence and independence during the early years of their education.

Key responsibilities

• Support teaching and learning across KS1 classrooms.
• Lead small‑group interventions focusing on phonics, reading, writing and numeracy.
• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with special educational needs.
• Adapt learning activities to ensure full curriculum access.
• Promote pupils' confidence, independence and emotional wellbeing throughout the school day.
• Deliver occasional PPA cover, delivering pre‑planned lessons and maintaining high expectations for behaviour and learning.
• Contribute to a positive, inclusive and engaging learning environment.

Required profile

• Previous experience working within a Key Stage 1 setting.
• Strong understanding of phonics and early years learning strategies.
• Experience delivering interventions that support pupil progress.
• Experience supporting children with additional needs in a primary school.
• Confident leading small groups and comfortable covering PPA sessions.
• Patient, adaptable and enthusiastic with a positive attitude.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
