Lead File Handler – Military Disease

About the role

The Lead File Handler will manage a personal caseload within the Military Disease department, focusing on NIHL (noise‑induced hearing loss) claims and other disease cases. You will also supervise a small team, guiding them to progress files efficiently while developing their technical expertise.

Key responsibilities

• Review documents and prepare reports for your own files and supervise team reports.
• Approve bills for your own cases and those of the team.
• Develop the team’s competency framework and technical strategy.
• Support strategy meetings and communicate key updates.
• Create guidance documents for the team.
• Handle disclosure, review evidence, and conduct investigations, including obtaining witness statements.
• Instruct experts, attend conferences and trials, and manage routine correspondence.
• Attend court appointments, liaise with insurers and insured parties, and ensure adherence to court timetables.
• Maintain compliance with SRA standards and uphold Keoghs values.

Required profile

• Technical proficiency in handling NIHL disease claims.
• Strong people skills with the ability to supervise a mini‑team.
• Initiative‑driven, effective negotiator with excellent listening and verbal communication.
• High attention to detail, capable of self‑organisation and prioritisation.
• Resilient under pressure, target‑oriented, enthusiastic and hardworking.
• Good level of IT proficiency.
