Lead Infrastructure Engineer (Hybrid, Manchester)

About the role

We are looking for a Lead Infrastructure Engineer to act as the senior technical authority across a complex hybrid‑cloud and on‑premise environment. The role combines hands‑on technical leadership with strategic influence, supporting critical infrastructure services for our clients.

Key responsibilities

• Lead resolution of critical infrastructure incidents and conduct root‑cause analysis.
• Own virtualisation, cloud, backup and platform operations.
• Manage upgrades, capacity planning and performance optimisation.
• Present and govern high‑risk changes through CAB processes.
• Serve as senior escalation point for engineers and vendors.
• Drive automation and operational‑improvement initiatives.
• Participate in a shared on‑call rotation.

Required profile

• 10+ years’ experience in enterprise infrastructure or managed services.
• Strong expertise in VMware, Microsoft Azure, Windows Server and Linux.
• Experience with enterprise backup and disaster‑recovery solutions.
• Proven technical leadership and major incident management.
• Knowledge of ITIL service‑management and change control.
• Scripting and automation experience (PowerShell or similar).
