Lead UI Artist

About the role
We are a AAA‑focused video game studio with offices in Guildford, UK and Utrecht, Netherlands. We are seeking a Lead UI Artist to define the visual language of our upcoming title – from menus and HUDs to animated icons – and to mentor a team of UI artists.
Key responsibilities
- Provide expert UI guidance, mentorship and support across the studio.
- Champion UI best practices, ensuring high visual quality, usability and technical implementation.
- Design and create high‑quality UI assets such as menus, HUDs, icons, buttons, animations and interactive elements.
- Develop and improve UI workflows, pipelines, style guides and best‑practice documentation.
- Collaborate with designers, engineers and producers to solve complex UI challenges and deliver polished player experiences.
- Support UI implementation in Unreal Engine, balancing creative goals with performance constraints.
- Advocate for strong user experiences, accessibility and usability throughout the project.
Required profile
- Significant professional experience in UI development across the full game development lifecycle, preferably on AAA projects.
- Proven track record leading UI delivery, mentoring team members and driving quality across the discipline.
- Strong understanding of UI/UX principles and player‑centred design.
- Excellent visual design skills, including typography, layout, colour theory and interaction design.
- Collaborative leadership style with a passion for mentoring and fostering a high‑performing creative environment.
Required skills
- Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite – Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects and Adobe XD (or equivalent UI design tools).
- Experience implementing UI in Unreal Engine using UMG.
- Basic knowledge of scripting languages such as HTML, CSS, XML or XAML.
