Learning Support Assistant – SEND School (Birmingham)

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist SEND school in Birmingham. You will work closely with teachers and allied professionals to help pupils with autism, SEMH, communication difficulties and complex learning needs thrive academically and personally.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group learning support tailored to individual needs.
• Assist pupils inside and outside the classroom to create a safe, engaging environment.
• Adapt resources and tasks to promote independence and confidence.
• Support communication, emotional regulation and social development.
• Monitor progress, contribute to pupil records and share observations with staff.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists and pastoral teams.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people in a school, care or support setting.
• Familiarity with SEND, autism or SEMH is highly desirable.
• Calm, patient and empathetic approach.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Passion for helping children succeed.

Required skills

• Ability to adapt learning materials to diverse needs.
• Basic understanding of safeguarding and DBS requirements.
