Locum Duty & Assessment Social Worker – £39/hr

About the role
We are seeking an experienced Qualified Social Worker (QSW) to join the Duty & Assessment team for Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council on a locum basis. You will lead the initial phase of children’s social care investigations, delivering timely assessments that shape subsequent protection or support actions.
Key responsibilities
- Respond to new referrals and conduct Initial Assessments and Section 47 enquiries.
- Collaborate with multi‑agency partners (MASH, police, health) to gather information and inform professional judgments.
- Present findings clearly to determine next steps – child protection, child in need, or case closure.
- Maintain accurate, high‑quality records in electronic case management systems.
Required profile
- Qualified Social Worker (QSW) registered with Social Work England.
- Recent experience in a statutory Duty & Assessment or Front Door service.
- Strong knowledge of the Children Act 1989 and related child protection legislation.
- Ability to manage a fast‑paced, complex caseload under pressure.
