Maintenance Engineer – Communications Systems

About the role

ADComms is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to ensure optimal performance and reliability of its communication systems across the UK rail network. The role is site‑based in Coulsdon and involves hands‑on maintenance, fault finding and support for a range of hardware and cabling.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot and repair communication equipment such as CCTV, PAVA, radio, UPS, switches and bespoke devices.
• Perform fault finding on RF‑over‑Fibre repeater systems and test optical and copper cable installations.
• Monitor system performance, resolve issues to minimise downtime and carry out regular tests and maintenance checks.
• Configure and update hardware and software, including firmware upgrades where required.
• Document procedures, configurations and incidents and coordinate with the wider maintenance team.

Required profile

• Permanent, full‑time employee with a valid full driving licence.
• Flexible availability during specified weeks as required.
• Solid understanding of communication systems and their operation.

Required skills

• CCTV and PAVA subsystems.
• Radio systems (GSM‑R, ACRL, LFB, PCR).
• RF‑over‑Fibre repeater technology.
• Switches (Cisco, HP) and strong IP networking knowledge.
• Fibre optic and copper cabling installation and testing.
• Telephony and Customer Information System experience.
