Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Our client, a well‑established engineering and manufacturing business, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their design team in Calne. You will own projects from concept through to production, providing technical guidance and mentoring junior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical and hydraulic systems, producing 3D CAD models, manufacturing and assembly drawings, and Bills of Materials.
• Develop hydraulic circuits and perform pressure, flow, force and power calculations to validate performance.
• Design welded fabrications and machined components, ensuring functionality, safety and manufacturability.
• Lead prototype development, testing and validation in close collaboration with workshop and production teams.
• Manage Engineering Change Requests and Orders, and liaise with suppliers, customers and internal departments.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Design Engineer in a mechanical engineering environment.
• Advanced 3D CAD capability, ideally with Autodesk Inventor.
• Experience designing welded fabrications and machined components.
• Good understanding of manufacturing processes and practical engineering.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and take ownership of technical decisions.
