Medical Secretary – Clinical Support

About the role

The Medical Secretary provides comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to clinicians and multidisciplinary teams within NHS Scotland. The role ensures smooth day‑to‑day operations, covering periods of staff absence and collaborating closely with specialist nursing teams, such as the Parkinson Nurses.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality medical secretarial services to doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.
• Maintain accurate patient records, correspondence and appointment schedules.
• Provide cover for the secretarial team during annual leave, sick leave or other absences.
• Work directly with Parkinson Nurses to coordinate patient‑focused administrative tasks.
• Assist with the preparation of clinical documents, referrals and reports.

Required profile

• Strong organisational and time‑management abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to handle confidential patient information with discretion.
• Experience working in a healthcare or clinical environment is desirable.

• Proficiency in standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
