Mental Health Support Worker – Barking (Full‑time)

About the role
We are seeking a dedicated Mental Health Support Worker for a SEN/SEMH school in Barking. The role is full‑time, Monday‑Friday 8:30 am‑4:00 pm, and offers a long‑term pathway to a permanent contract. You will work directly with pupils who have complex emotional and mental health needs.
Key responsibilities
- Support a small class of 3‑6 students, providing individual pastoral and emotional guidance.
- Assist the teacher in delivering lesson objectives and using resources to engage each pupil.
- Help pupils understand and participate in lessons, adapting materials as needed.
- Act as a positive role model and maintain a safe, supportive classroom environment.
Required profile
- Previous experience supporting students with SEN, mental health issues or challenging behaviour.
- Confidence and composure in a school setting.
- Knowledge of the UK curriculum and safeguarding procedures.
- Reliability, punctuality and ability to follow instructions.
- Capability to conduct risk assessments.
- Strong rapport‑building skills with individual pupils.
