MOJ/OIC File Handler

About the role

The role of MOJ/OIC Handler is to effectively manage a portfolio of litigated MOJ and OIC quantum files. It involves dealing with quantum cases efficiently and proactively while using telephone negotiation techniques to obtain appropriate settlements.

Key responsibilities

• Review, report and set reserves and strategy on new instructions, including completing an initial review file note.
• Identify technical issues with the file and handle them appropriately.
• Value general and special damages on all cases and set negotiation parameters where needed.
• File AoS, prepare briefs to Counsel and update reserves upon receipt of evidence.
• Meet agreed performance targets, adhere to client guidelines and ensure files comply with ISO 9001 standards.
• Maintain compliance with the SRA Code of Conduct 2011.

Required profile

• File handling experience within a law practice or insurer.
• Experience valuing general and special damages using JC Guidelines and case law.
• Preferable experience of quantum negotiations.
• Ability to plan and prioritise workloads in a process‑driven environment.
• Calm under pressure with the ability to re‑prioritise and delegate effectively.
• Confidence to take initiative, innovate and adapt to changing situations.
• Excellent listening and verbal communication skills.
