Payroll Operations Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Operations Manager to lead the end‑to‑end payroll function for a prestigious organisation near Wantage, Oxfordshire. You will ensure accurate, compliant and timely payroll delivery while driving innovation through automation and AI.

Key responsibilities

• Own the full payroll cycle, including salaries, overtime, bonuses, benefits, allowances and deductions.
• Maintain compliance with UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, statutory payments and pension regulations.
• Lead payroll governance, audit activities and the establishment of robust controls.
• Collaborate with HR, Finance, Tax and Systems teams to improve processes and implement automation.
• Produce payroll reports and provide insights for budgeting and forecasting.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing end‑to‑end payroll operations in a complex organisation.
• Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, taxation and statutory reporting.
• Leadership experience with the ability to develop and manage payroll team members.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and reconciliation capabilities.

Required skills

• Advanced payroll systems knowledge (e.g., Workday, SAP, ADP, OSV).
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience with AI, automation and data‑analytics tools to enhance payroll delivery.
