QC Chemist – Laboratory Testing in Manchester

About the role

We are seeking a QC Chemist to join our Manchester laboratory, supporting chemical manufacturing by conducting daily testing, batch approvals and technical problem‑solving. Reporting to the Lab R&D Manager, you will work closely with production teams to ensure product quality and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Test raw materials, in‑process batches and finished products against strict specifications.
• Perform laboratory analyses including viscosity, density, pH, opacity, gloss, drying time and stability.
• Assist with colour matching, shade adjustments and tinting accuracy.
• Review test results, identify trends and manage batch release or out‑of‑spec findings.
• Investigate and resolve production, quality and customer technical issues.
• Prepare samples, maintain accurate QC records and calibrate equipment.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a QC, laboratory or testing role, preferably within coatings, chemicals or manufacturing.
• Science degree, HNC/HND or equivalent practical laboratory experience.
• Strong attention to detail, proactive problem‑solving and good communication skills.
• Full UK driving licence is advantageous.
