Qualified Social Worker – Front Door Team (Manchester)

About the role

Vitalis is recruiting an experienced Qualified Social Worker to join the Front Door Team of Manchester City Council. The role sits at the entry point of Children’s Services, ensuring that children, young people and families receive timely, appropriate support.

Key responsibilities

• Screen incoming contacts quickly and robustly, assessing need, risk and safeguarding concerns.
• Apply analytical and assessment expertise to decide the most suitable interventions.
• Engage directly with children, families and professionals using David Thorpe’s Conversational Model to gather information and understand risk and protective factors.
• Collaborate closely with co‑located Family Help Social Work Teams and Early Help Services to ensure seamless multi‑agency support.
• Maintain high standards of professional practice while managing competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.

Required profile

• Qualified Social Worker with experience in children’s services and safeguarding.
• Strong analytical, assessment and decision‑making abilities.
• Excellent communication skills and confidence handling complex situations.
• Commitment to strengths‑based practice and continuous learning.

Required skills

• Social work assessment and safeguarding expertise.
• Knowledge of multi‑agency collaboration processes.
• Familiarity with David Thorpe’s Conversational Model (preferred).
