Qualified Social Worker – UASC (Trafford)

About the role

Trafford Council is seeking a resilient, qualified Social Worker to join its front‑line Duty and Assessment team, focusing on Unaccompanied Asylum‑Seeking Children (UASC). The role blends fast‑paced initial assessments with specialist support for vulnerable young people arriving in the UK, offering a hybrid working model.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct statutory single assessments for children and families within DfE timescales.
• Lead UASC assessments, including Merton‑compliant age assessments and identification of safeguarding or placement needs.
• Carry out Section 47 enquiries in partnership with police and other agencies.
• Contribute to triple planning (Return, Leave to Remain, Transitional support) for UASC cases.
• Collaborate with interpreters and specialist agencies to ensure the child’s voice is heard.
• Use creative, culturally‑sensitive tools to engage children and young people.
• Maintain accurate case notes using Trafford’s electronic management system (e.g., Liquidlogic).

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Social Work and registration with Social Work England.
• Proven experience working with UASC, including knowledge of the National Transfer Scheme and age‑assessment processes.
• Minimum two years post‑qualifying experience in a Duty & Assessment or First Response setting.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for community visits.
• Enhanced DBS on the update service and a DfE‑compliant five‑year work history.
