Quality Inspector – AS9100 Aerospace – Birmingham

About the role
Our client, a market‑leading manufacturer of low‑volume, high‑precision aerospace and automotive components, is seeking a motivated Quality Inspector to join the Quality team in Birmingham. Reporting to the Quality Manager, you will ensure that products, materials and processes meet AS9100 standards, customer specifications and regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Perform first article inspections (FAI) in line with AS9102 requirements.
- Inspect incoming materials, in‑process components and finished products against engineering drawings, specifications and customer requirements.
- Verify compliance with the AS9100 quality management system.
- Use precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMMs and bore gauges.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications and quality plans.
- Complete inspection reports and maintain accurate quality records.
- Identify, document and report non‑conforming products and materials.
- Support root‑cause analysis and corrective‑action investigations.
- Participate in internal audits and assist with external customer and certification audits.
- Monitor manufacturing processes to ensure ongoing compliance with quality standards.
- Verify certifications, traceability records and material documentation.
- Collaborate with production, engineering and supply‑chain teams to resolve quality issues.
- Assist continuous‑improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma or similar methodologies.
- Ensure compliance with aerospace, customer, regulatory and safety requirements.
Required profile
- Relevant technical certification or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in quality inspection, preferably within an aerospace environment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Knowledge of AS9100 and AS9102 standards.
- Experience with root‑cause analysis and corrective‑action processes.
- Familiarity with Lean or Six Sigma improvement methods.
- Strong attention to detail and self‑motivation.
