Quality Inspector – AS9100 Aerospace

About the role
Our client, a market leader in low‑volume, high‑precision aerospace and automotive components, is seeking an enthusiastic Quality Inspector to join their Birmingham team. Reporting to the Quality Manager, you will ensure that all products, materials and processes meet AS9100 standards, customer specifications and regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Perform first‑article inspections (FAI) in line with AS9102.
- Inspect incoming materials, in‑process components and finished parts against engineering drawings and specifications.
- Verify compliance with the AS9100 quality management system.
- Use precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMMs and bore gauges.
- Interpret GD&T, engineering drawings and quality plans.
- Complete inspection reports and maintain accurate quality records.
- Identify, document and report non‑conforming items.
- Support root‑cause analysis and corrective‑action investigations.
- Participate in internal audits and assist with external customer and certification audits.
- Collaborate with production, engineering and supply‑chain teams to resolve quality issues.
- Contribute to continuous‑improvement projects using Lean or Six Sigma methodologies.
Required profile
- Relevant technical certification or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in quality inspection within aerospace or automotive environments.
- Familiarity with AS9100 and AS9102 standards.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Self‑motivated, enthusiastic and able to work independently.
