R&D Tax Science & Engineering Consultant (Senior)

About the role

Join EY's Global Grants Credits & Incentives team in Birmingham as a Senior R&D Tax Science & Engineering Consultant. You will work with a diverse portfolio of clients, from owner‑managed businesses to multinational groups, helping them secure R&D tax relief for cutting‑edge projects.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate within project teams, communicating effectively with tax, accounting and STEM professionals.
• Lead interviews with senior technical and engineering staff to identify qualifying R&D activities.
• Write and review technical project reports that highlight the scientific and technological aspects of client projects.
• Perform data analysis and calculate project expenditures to support R&D tax claims.
• Apply advanced problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills to ensure high‑quality delivery.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, providing exceptional service and managing risk.
• Support business development initiatives and cross‑sector claim opportunities.

Required profile

• Strong interest in science, technology and engineering challenges.
• Industry experience with engineering design, experimental processes, manufacturing improvements, or new product development.
• Ability to quickly adapt to and learn about different industry sectors.
• Senior‑level experience suitable for a consultant role.
