Risk Manager – Build Global Fintech Risk Function

About the role

Outpost is a Merchant of Record operating in 58+ tax jurisdictions, handling payments, tax compliance and customer experience for digital and physical goods. As the first risk hire, you will build the risk function from the ground up, turning complex regulatory frameworks into practical, scalable controls.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement the end‑to‑end risk management framework, including policies, procedures, controls and governance.
• Identify, assess, document and monitor risks across payments, tax, financial crime and operations.
• Set risk appetite and tolerance in partnership with the CEO and founding team.
• Embed risk thinking into product launches, market expansions and banking partnerships.
• Stay ahead of regulatory changes in key markets (EU, UK, US) and translate them into actionable guidance.
• Design AML/fraud controls, monitor transaction patterns and manage incident response across 58+ jurisdictions.
• Develop key risk indicators, dashboards and reporting to track exposure in real time.

Required profile

• 5‑7 years of risk, compliance or financial‑crime experience at a payments or fintech company (e.g., Stripe, Adyen, Revolut).
• Strong quantitative background with a STEM, economics or related degree, or demonstrable data‑science skills.
• Hands‑on experience in first‑line‑of‑defence risk ownership, not just oversight.
• Ability to work in a fast‑moving, ambiguous environment and build processes from scratch.
