SEMH Teaching Assistant – Birmingham (Full‑Time)

About the role

Join a specialist school or alternative provision in Birmingham as a SEMH Teaching Assistant. You will support young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs, helping them stay engaged and develop confidence.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and group support for pupils with SEMH needs both inside and outside the classroom.
• Implement positive behaviour strategies to maintain a calm learning environment.
• Build professional relationships with pupils, offering emotional support and encouraging independence.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, SEND coordinators, and wider support teams.

Required profile

• Experience working with vulnerable children or adults in care, education, or sports coaching settings.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging situations.
• Patient, proactive, adaptable with strong communication skills.
• Holder of an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
