Senior Accountant – UK Controller

About the role

The Senior Accountant – UK Controller will report to the Manager, UK Controller, part of the Europe Regional Controller’s group. The role ensures the integrity of US GAAP financials, statutory reporting compliance, and provides accounting and control support for Mastercard Payment Gateway Services in the UK.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the integrity of financial records of UK legal entities in line with Mastercard policies and in partnership with the Global Business Service Center.
• Manage statutory account audits and provide quarterly disclosure information to the Mastercard Corporate Group.
• Maintain strong relationships with external auditors and internal stakeholders, assessing and communicating key risks and opportunities.
• Assist in preparing monthly financial statements and control monitoring for management review.
• Ensure a robust internal control environment, improve controls where needed, and document financial and business processes.
• Provide ad‑hoc support for tax and treasury activities, including cash‑flow forecasts and interim accounts.
• Perform complex maintenance tasks within the billing system, analyse billing data, resolve billing issues and drive process optimisation.

Required profile

• ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified.
• Experience with US GAAP, IFRS and UK statutory accounting and reporting requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• Proven experience liaising with external auditors.
• Experience assessing operational and financial control implementation.
• Track record of leading process‑improvement initiatives.
• Strong analytical skills and proficiency with Excel (VBA a plus).
• Excellent communication and ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines.
