Senior Development Underwriter (Hybrid)

About the role

We are seeking a commercially‑minded Senior Development Underwriter to join our regional commercial underwriting team in Birmingham. The role combines technical underwriting expertise with broker development and strategic trading, offering high visibility and autonomy.

Key responsibilities

• Build and develop strong relationships with key regional and strategic brokers.
• Drive new business through tactical trading and pipeline development.
• Support panel growth and increase broker engagement across commercial markets.
• Conduct broker reviews and deliver underwriting training to support regional growth.
• Promote commercial products across branch, e‑trade, and scheme business.
• Provide technical referral support and mentor underwriting colleagues.
• Support renewal retention, rate improvement, and portfolio performance.

Required profile

• Proven experience underwriting mid‑market commercial risks.
• Strong broker relationship management and trading capability.
• Commercially focused, decisive underwriting approach.
• Confidence managing portfolios and delivering against financial targets.
• Ability to work independently while positively influencing a wider team.
• Experience of Motor Trade is an advantage.
