Senior Electrical Engineer – HV Design Authority

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to act as the High‑Voltage (HV) Design Authority for a fast‑growing engineering SME. The role provides senior technical leadership, governance and assurance for all HV electrical design activities, ensuring solutions are safe, compliant and buildable.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the senior technical authority for HV electrical design, reviewing, checking and approving designs against NERS requirements and industry standards.
• Define, maintain and enforce design standards, quality‑assurance processes and governance procedures.
• Support complex HV schemes, including substations and related infrastructure, and liaise with Tier 1 contractors, DNOs and client teams.
• Contribute to bid preparation and early‑stage technical discussions.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers to build in‑house HV design capability.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in HV electrical design, preferably on substations or energy infrastructure projects.
• Proven track record working with DNOs, Tier 1 contractors or engineering consultancies.
• Confidence acting as a design checker, approver or technical authority.
• Strong understanding of design assurance, compliance, risk management and governance.
• Chartered status or progression towards chartership is advantageous but not mandatory.

• Competitive salary £80,000‑£100,000 per year, with a total package up to £110,000 for exceptional candidates.
