Senior Grab Crane Operative – Materials Recovery Facility

About the role

Step into a vital position at our Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Smugglers Way, Wandsworth. This fast‑paced, hands‑on role sits at the heart of London’s recycling system, turning thousands of tonnes of commingled recyclables into high‑quality materials for reprocessing.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and maintain bunker levels while coordinating material arriving by dustcart for processing.
• Oversee junior and agency operatives, providing direction and ensuring safety and operational standards.
• Liaise with TAC Control, Shift Supervisors and sampling teams to maintain material quality and smooth operations.
• Contribute to operational planning, including resource allocation, maintenance coordination and overall site performance.

Required profile

• Proven experience in recycling, MRF operations or a similar engineering‑based environment.
• Strong understanding of safe working practices, statutory requirements and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
• Team‑player mindset with the ability to guide junior staff, complete paperwork and handovers accurately.
• Willingness to work flexibly, including additional hours or alternative shifts, and to assist with cleaning and maintenance duties.
