Senior Law Costs Draftsperson

About the role
Our client, a leading Legal 500 law firm and major Legal Aid provider, is seeking a Senior Law Costs Draftsperson to join its Billing & Costs Department in London. You will work with a team of 30+ costs professionals, handling high‑value, complex costs matters and influencing the department’s strategic direction.
Key responsibilities
- Draft and prepare inter partes bills of costs, budgets, and points of reply/dispute.
- Draft inter partes bills that include Legal Aid elements and VHCC/HCCP cases.
- Prepare cost estimates for Allocation Questionnaires and Pre‑Trial Checklists.
- Negotiate bills, attend CCMCs, and represent the firm at Detailed Assessment Hearings.
- Oversee issuance of Notices of Commencement and related documentation.
- Provide technical costs guidance to fee‑earners and mentor junior staff.
- Maintain accurate time‑costing procedures and ensure compliance with file‑management and quality standards.
- Contribute to internal training and continuous improvement of costs management processes.
Required profile
- Minimum 3 years of experience drafting inter partes and Legal Aid bills.
- Strong knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR).
- Proven ability to manage high‑value, complex costs matters.
- Experience mentoring junior colleagues and driving best practice.
