Senior Machine Learning Engineer

About the role

Epic Games is hiring a Senior Machine Learning Engineer in London to work with its team of applied research engineers at the intersection of computer vision, gameplay agents, natural language processing and machine learning. The goal is to build state-of-the-art tools that support game developers, focusing on bots (trained gameplay agents, intelligent NPCs, companions, world modeling) and automation of key areas such as moderation, security and QA testing.

Key responsibilities

• Create and deliver production-ready, scalable, high-quality machine learning models and algorithms that can act within game environments
• Critically assess the effectiveness of these models and recommend improvements for the ongoing roadmap
• Understand and assess the effectiveness of new data channels and support the creation of new ones

Required profile

• PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics or a related field, or 3+ years of relevant industry experience
• Experience creating and applying machine learning algorithms for modelling bot behaviour (vision-based or language-instructed) and deploying them as production-level in-game systems
• Collaborative experience with other developers, following a flexible, agile or lean approach

Required skills

• Deep learning, including applications in the gaming industry
• Foundational models, vision and/or language, especially vision-language-action models, reinforcement learning agents, and local deployment and post-training of open-weight models
• Reinforcement learning, including agentic systems, reward design, policy optimisation, evaluation and scalable agent training environments
• Python and ML tools/frameworks such as NumPy, SciPy, scikit-learn and PyTorch
