Senior Practitioner - Family Help

About the role
We are seeking a Senior Practitioner to join the Family Help service at Birmingham's Children’s Trust. The role delivers high‑quality statutory social work, safeguarding children and families through early help, assessment and Child in Need planning. You will work within a trauma‑informed, strengths‑based framework to achieve sustainable outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Manage a diverse caseload including Child in Need (Section 17), pre‑proceedings and step‑up safeguarding cases.
- Complete statutory assessments, risk assessments and safety plans, escalating safeguarding concerns as required.
- Develop and review Child in Need plans in partnership with families and multi‑agency professionals.
- Chair or contribute to Child in Need meetings, Team Around the Family meetings and core group sessions.
- Maintain accurate, audit‑ready case records and produce high‑quality reports for reviews and legal processes.
- Work collaboratively with schools, health, police and voluntary organisations to coordinate joined‑up interventions.
- Ensure all interventions are timely, strengths‑based, trauma‑informed and meet statutory timescales.
