Senior Software Engineer – Python

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to lead the development of scientific and engineering software at Anemoi Marine Technologies. This 3‑to‑6‑month contract based in London will involve turning technical methods into reliable Python applications and handing them over to a permanent engineer.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design, development, testing and delivery of early‑stage scientific and engineering software.
• Make pragmatic architectural decisions that balance immediate delivery with long‑term maintainability.
• Establish and embed standards for version control, code review, automated testing, CI and documentation.
• Ensure scientific calculations are reproducible, traceable and verified.
• Provide thorough documentation and a structured handover to the long‑term owner.

Required profile

• 4+ years of professional software development experience with a track record of delivering non‑trivial projects.
• Advanced Python expertise and strong judgement in software architecture and modular design.
• Experience establishing engineering practices such as automated testing, CI, code review and Git version control.
• Ability to understand unfamiliar scientific methods, clarify ambiguities and define testable behaviour.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation and knowledge transfer.
