Service Charge Accountant

About the role

Join a well‑established housing organisation as a Service Charge Accountant, working within a collaborative finance team in Birmingham. You will own key service charge accounting duties while supporting a small team and liaising with senior finance professionals.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and manage service charge accounts, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance.
• Handle budgeting, reconciliations, accruals, pre‑payments and month‑end processes.
• Collaborate with operational teams and contribute to process improvements.
• Support the continuous development of the service charge function across a diverse property portfolio.
• Assist with year‑end financial reporting, forecasting and service charge recoverability analysis.

Required profile

• Part‑qualified or qualified by experience in a service charge or property finance environment.
• Strong understanding of service charge accounting, including budgeting, reconciliations, accruals and month‑end processes.
• Experience working in a regulated environment, preferably social housing or the wider property sector.
• Confident communicator with experience supporting or supervising junior team members and building stakeholder relationships.
