Service Charge Accountant

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Service Charge Accountant to join the finance team of a well‑established property business in Birmingham. The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of service charge accounts, ensuring accuracy, compliance and timely delivery while working closely with internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare annual service charge accounts for a portfolio of properties.
• Produce service charge budgets and perform reconciliations.
• Review expenditure against budgets, investigate variances and manage accruals, pre‑payments and year‑end adjustments.
• Liaise with property managers, surveyors and clients to resolve queries.
• Support the year‑end audit process and ensure accounts meet lease requirements and industry standards.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to process and reporting improvements.

Required profile

• Proven experience in service charge accounting within property, real estate or a similar environment.
• Strong understanding of service charge budgets, year‑end accounts and lease compliance.
• Ability to manage deadlines and take ownership of a portfolio.
