Sexual Health Practitioner – Band 5

About the role

The Lothian Sexual and Reproductive Health Service (LSRHS) is seeking an experienced registered nurse or midwife to join its multidisciplinary team as a Band 5 Sexual Health Practitioner. You will work across a range of specialist clinics providing comprehensive sexual health, reproductive, and HIV services to a diverse patient population.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver safe, evidence‑based care in Genitourinary Medicine (GUM), HIV, contraception, abortion, and vasectomy clinics.
• Provide support to the young people’s service (HR+) and the termination of pregnancy service (CHOICES).
• Participate in local clinic sessions and outreach activities, including at least one evening shift per week.
• Contribute to the management and leadership of the nursing team, promoting best practice and patient safety.
• Develop knowledge in gender identity, psychosexual issues, menopause and other specialist areas as required.

Required profile

• First‑level registration as a nurse or midwife (NMC).
• Post‑registration experience with a demonstrable background in sexual health or a related clinical area.
• Open, curious, and non‑judgemental approach to patient care.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Clinical competence in GUM, HIV, contraception, abortion and vasectomy procedures.
• Experience delivering care in community or clinic settings.
• Knowledge of NHS policies and patient safety standards.
