Small Claims File Handler

About the role

We are seeking a Small Claims File Handler to manage a portfolio of litigated small‑claims track files under the supervision of a lead File Handler. This is an entry‑level position that offers the chance to develop litigation handling skills while working on both quantum and liability cases.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of Small Claims Track cases, ensuring court deadlines are met.
• Analyse evidence to develop initial case strategies on liability and quantum.
• Conduct telephone negotiations with clients, defendants, insurers and solicitors to achieve settlements.
• Proof witnesses, assess evidence and draft statements.
• Prepare court documents and meet all filing deadlines.
• Instruct and liaise with counsel where required.
• Maintain accurate case, billing and management records in line with ISO 9001 and SRA standards.
• Handle correspondence and calls within strict service‑level agreements.

Required profile

• Established experience or education in law.
• File‑handling experience within a law practice or insurer.
• Good understanding of the Highway Code and basic road‑traffic legislation.
• Ability to plan, prioritise workloads and work efficiently in a process‑driven environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail.
