Software Engineer C++ (Hybrid) – Birmingham

About the role

Autodesk is seeking a C++ Software Engineer to join its Fusion team in Birmingham. The role focuses on building and enhancing the Fusion desktop CAD/CAM application, leveraging AI‑assisted development tools to deliver high‑quality features that solve real customer problems.

Key responsibilities

• Use AI‑assisted tools (e.g., Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude) for planning, coding, debugging, test generation and documentation while validating output for correctness and performance.
• Design and implement scalable, maintainable C++ features using object‑oriented principles and design patterns.
• Own feature development from design through deployment and post‑release support.
• Troubleshoot and resolve defects, performance bottlenecks, and production issues.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications.
• Collaborate with product, design, and QA teams to deliver customer‑facing capabilities.
• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies and work effectively within distributed global teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong foundation in object‑oriented software engineering and C++ development.
• Experience with computational geometry or geometric modelling concepts.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment and communicate effectively with global teammates.
